Well, all the children in Peoria are back to school. And, hopefully, not back to... back pain! Children lug around pounds worth of books, papers, lunches, and other materials to and from school, and all that weight can cause back pain if their backpacks are not used properly. Here's a quick video from healthierillinois.com on backpack fitting and use:

I'm not sure whether a chiropractor can help lower your golf score, but at the very least a chiropractor ought to be able to make you function better out on the golf course. There are some easy ways that you can protect yourself on the course, too. The last thing you want is to get hurt during your favorite activity!
Via the American Chiropractic Association, here are four tips for taking care of your spine while out on the golf course (click on the image for a larger version): This is prime gardening season in Peoria and the Central Illinois area: not only is my home garden producing fruits and vegetables like crazy, but the weeds are also out of control. That means more hours outside, hunched over, or crawling between the rows. Ask any gardener and they'll tell you just how satisfying the work is, but it can be pretty rough on the back, arms, and knees after a while.
Fortunately, there are right ways and wrong ways to do just about every activity, and gardening is no different. Here's some information that every Peoria gardener should know. Via the American Chiropractic Association, here are some fabulous tips for getting ready for gardening (click on the image for a larger version): The National Weather Service of Central Illinois has issued an excessive heat watch for Peoria, Peoria County, Tazewell County, Woodford County, and other surrounding counties through Saturday evening. The heat watch notes that the effects of the heat tend to worsen the longer the heat continues, so public health officials in Peoria and Central Illinois are encouraging everyone to remain well hydrated, to stay out of the sun (especially in the afternoons), to remain in air conditioned environments, and, most importantly, to check in on friends and relatives. This is a great time to remind yourself of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, as provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine: Heat cramps are the first stage of heat illness. If these symptoms are not treated, it can lead to heat exhaustion and then heat stroke. If you suspect someone might be suffering from heat stroke or heat exhaustion, the most important thing is to begin to cool their body: If you think a person may have heat illness or emergency: And, as noted above, please call 911 immediately if the person does not quickly improve, if they worsen, if their temperature continues to rise, or if you suspect heatstroke.
Please remember that prevention is always the better option. Stay cool, Peoria!, Patients often ask, if they are moving away from Peoria or travelling for an extended period of time, which chiropractors they should visit at their destinations. The first thing I always tell them is to research whether any Activator Methods chiropractors practice in the area they'll be visiting.
The simplest method for this research is to use an online tool to locate an Activator Methods chiropractor in your area. If you were to use this tool today and search for chiropractors in Peoria, IL, you will find one chiropractor in Peoria who is rated with an Advanced Profiency Rating (the highest rating for Activator Methods). If you know that you'll be in the following four areas, however, my first recommendation would be the doctors listed below. So if you do not live in the Peoria area, please consider visiting one of these trusted colleagues: Dr. Alan L. Johnson, Cedarburg, WI Dr. Terry Hough, 5800 Broad St., Greendale, WI Dr. Matthew Groves, Decatur, IL Dr. John Daniels, Racine, WI |
