What Is Chiropractic?

Unless you have been or are a chiropractic patient you probably have thought, "Chiropractors are just back crackers."  This may very well be the most common misconception about what chiropractic care really is.

Chiropractic care is so much more!

Let’s get technical; the nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body, controls every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. Bones (vertebrae) that cover your spinal cord (the nervous system's information superhighway) can irritate, rub, stretch, or choke delicate nerve tissue. And if the nerve tissue is irritated or choked… you can well imagine that irritation effects the cells, tissues, and organs that the nervous system controls.

In a nutshell, chiropractic doctors locate and help correct spinal, muscle, and joint problems interfering with the nerve supply to the entire body. This care is handled without drugs or surgery, and then the body's inborn healing ability is released. This safe and conservative approach to relief and wellness makes chiropractic the most popular form of natural health care in the world.

The Illinois Chiropractic Society helpfully provides a
comprehensive list of frequently asked questions by chiropractic patients.

It is important to remember that Activator Methods is only one technique among many chiropractic techniques. All chiropractic techniques aim to accomplish the same goal: restoration of the normal functioning nervous system. Depending on your particular body, condition, and situation, your nervous system may respond more positively to one chiropractic technique over another. Johnson Family Chiropractic of Peoria specializes in the Activator technique because we have seen consistent results from it, but many other techniques also produce wonderful and miraculous results. Ideally, all chiropractors work together to help you find the right technique for you.
