Although manual therapies for pain and disability have been around for millennia, the first modern chiropractic adjustment was delivered 123 years ago on this date by D. D. Palmer in Davenport, Iowa.
In the last 123 years, countless lives have been touched for the better by the legacy of this first chiropractic adjustment, including my own, first as a patient and also now as a doctor. I can only imagine how proud D. D. Palmer would be today if he were still here, 123 years later. How fantastic is chiropractic, you say? Well, it's easy as (here comes the pun I've been setting up for the last three paragraphs...), well, it's easy as 1-2-3. One, it's drug-free... two, it's gentle... three, it's proven effective for most people, both by decades of research and by patient testimonials. Happy Founder's Day!

As we approach the Fourth of July here in Peoria, it's important to note that Johnson Family Chiropractic of Peoria will be closed to observe the holiday.
However, we will be open on Monday, July 3, as well as Wednesday, July 5. Please refer to our normal operating hours for availability on those days. Thank you, and have a wonderful Fourth! From the American Chiropractic Association:
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) has launched a major grassroots campaign to enact federal legislation that would achieve full physician status for doctors of chiropractic in Medicare. The ACA invites all chiropractors and chiropractic patients to consider signing the following petition: "Petition to White House and Members of Congress Give Seniors the Medicare Coverage They Need and Deserve: Full Access to and Reimbursement for Services Provided by Doctors of Chiropractic Studies have shown that essential services provided by doctors of chiropractic (DCs) can help aging Americans live healthier and happier lives, yet every day our nation's seniors are being unjustly denied full access to Medicare covered services by doctors of chiropractic that could improve their quality of life. Why? Because the federal government continues to rely on an antiquated statute that discriminates against Medicare’s chiropractic patients by not covering medically necessary and mandated services delivered by DCs. This needs to stop. Our aging population deserves the best health care this nation has to offer. And research has shown that safe and effective services provided by DCs are a part of the solution. I urge you to pass legislation to correct this inequity in Medicare." To sign this petition, please visit the Chiropractic in Medicare petition webpage. The winter storm that has blanketed Peoria with snow is being followed by bitterly cold arctic air. The current forecasts for Wednesday are projecting a high of -1 degree Fehrenheit with a dangerously low wind chill. Be safe!
