The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency reports that when pharmaceutical drugs or other personal care products are flushed down the toilet or thrown into the garbage, many chemicals can enter the ground water supply through lakes, rivers, and streams. These chemicals can change the local ecosystems and also enter your body unwillingly every time you drink a glass of water. In fact, trace amounts of many pharmaceutical chemicals have already been found in Illinois soil and water. There is a proper way to dispose of your unwanted pharmaceutical products that will keep us and our environment safe from unwanted and potentially harmful chemicals. This method is: incineration. The excessive heat will effectively destroy and denature most chemicals. Safe incineration should be performed by professionals. Fortunately, Illinois American Water and the Drug Enforcement Agency have teamed up to collect all of your expired, outdated, unused, or unnecessary pharmaceuticals and personal care products. They will be holding a special collection tomorrow, April 28, from 10 am to 2 pm. CINewsNow reports: Flushing medicine down the toilet or drain as well as throwing them in the trash are discouraged. "This event is a great opportunity for residents to securely drop off any unused or expired medications," said Karla Olson Teasley, Illinois American Water president. "It's important for us to keep these items our of our landfills and water supplies." If you want to participate, please visit one of the following locations on April 28: Washington Police Department Morton Police Department Pekin Police Department Princeton Police Department Normal Police Department McLean County Sheriff's Office Kewanee Police Department Henry County Sheriff's Office (collection site is at Henry County Courthouse in Cambridge)

You're proud of your lawn. You water it, feed it on schedule and try to keep the neighborhood kids off of it. But you missed a few spots with the fertilizer spreader and now dull, brown patches where the grass was STARVED of potential growth energy begin to show. A similar situation can happen inside you. All the cells, organs and tissues that make up your body need an even distribution of neurotrophic (life sustaining) energy from your Nerve System in order to flourish and grow. If parts of your body are deprived of this energy, likewise you'll develop dull brown patches (dis-ease) on your internal lawn. Chiropractors refer to it as being 'Subluxated.' The goal of chiropractic care is 100% coverage of neurotrophic life energy in your body – and that's achieved by keeping your Nerve System clear of blockages at the spinal level. If you don't want to see ugly, brown, weak patches in your health, stay EVEN and consistent with your chiropractic care. Content provided by Principle33. Asthma is a long-term, inflammatory disease in which the airways of the lungs constrict, causing wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and coughing. In Peoria County 12.8% of the residents have been diagnosed with asthma and 11.5% report having at least one asthma symptom a week. Asthma is the fourth most common reason for pediatric physician office visits and is one of the leading causes of school absenteeism. In response to these alarming statistics and in an effort to raise public awareness of the risks faced everyday by people living with asthma, the Peoria City/County Health Department urges residents to observe World Asthma Day on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 by learning more about controlling the factors that affect people with asthma. [snip] Symptoms of an asthma attack can include frequent coughing and wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. These symptoms may occur alone or in combination with other symptoms. A sign that asthma may be present, especially in children, is an excessive number of chest colds or episodes of pneumonia. Because these symptoms are common to other illnesses, asthma is often difficult to diagnose. Recognizing and reducing the frequency and severity of symptoms can help prevent further damage to the lungs. Although asthma is not curable at this time, changes in lifestyle and proper medication can reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks. The following are some steps you can take to help control asthma:
There are many types of research articles. The simplest is the case study, where a doctor reports what happened to one particular patient. The most complex is the systematic review, where researchers comb through all of the existing literature on a particular topic to enhance our overall knowledge on that topic.
A systematic review was recently published by the journal Clinical Chiropractic which examined research on "The chiropractic care of patients with asthma." Asthma is a very serious condition, which is growing more prevalent each decade. In terms of overall health care dollars, Americans spend between $1 billion and $6 billion annually on asthma medication. The authors of this systematic review noted that some recent research articles had come to light which were critical of the effectiveness of chiropractic towards patients with asthma. In taking a closer look at those articles, these authors determined that there were serious flaws with the research procedures and, in particular, with the way in which the sham adjustments (i.e., placebos) were administered. After all, it is very difficult to convince a patient that they have had a chiropractic adjustment when they have not! The authors also looked at a broad scope of research, including case studies and other smaller research studies. They found that there is much anecdotal and clinical evidence for chiropractic effectiveness in asthmatic patients, and encouraged other researchers to continue to produce high-quality literature on the subject. The chiropractic profession already knows the benefits of the chiropractic adjustment for non-musculoskeletal conditions such as asthma, and looks forward to more research on the subject.
